Boston Fern Plant Care Guide
Look around your neighborhood during summer and surely you’ll find this plant hanging on someone’s front porch! To achieve this classic look, here’s how to properly care for your boston fern plant!
Why People Love This Plant
Boston ferns are loved for their classic look and are often found hanging on front porches with their fronds beautifully falling over the side. This sword fern is also an incredibly popular indoor houseplant as well though as it does not demand a lot of sunlight. Let this fern’s arching fronds hang down in the form of a hanging basket or from a pedestal inside your home!
Your Guide to Care
Care: Not too difficult, but particular.
Light: Boston ferns like bright, indirect light (indoors and out). Direct sun can burn their fronds, whereas too much shade can cause sparse fronds.
Water: This plant prefers to be wet rather than dry. Make sure the soil is always moist, but not soggy. Check the soil everyday if possible and water when the soil starts to feel dry. Dry soil is a killer of boston ferns.
Temperature: 65 to 75F is their ideal temperature. These plants are very sensitive to temperatures and are intolerant of extreme temperatures.
Humidity: Make sure to give your boston fern high humidity! Especially when caring for them indoors, make sure to provide them with additional humidity.
Feeding: Not a hungry plant. You can fertilize your boston fern a couple of times a year, they don’t need much fertilizer.
Bonus
Yellow fronds are a sign the humidity levels are not high enough. One option to solve this is to take your boston fern into the bathroom where the humidity is usually higher!
