Why People Love This Plant
Bright, variegated, colored foliage, what’s not to love about the croton magnificent?! This (quite literally) magnificent croton sports shades of green, yellow, orange, burgundy, and purple! It is sure to brighten up any room. It makes for exceptional home decoration during the fall season where its shades of green, orange, yellow, and red mimic the colors of seasonal changing leaves and later, shades of purple lead you into halloween!
Your Guide to Care
Care: Easy to Moderate
Light: The croton magnificent likes to be given plenty of light! It prefers to receive about 4 to 6 hours of bright, indirect light per day (the more light the brighter the colors). Tall, lanky plants are the result of a lack of light. Leaves turning green is also an indicator of this. If you notice either of these occurring, try a brighter spot!
Water: Water your croton when the top third of the soil feels dry to the touch. Always make sure to water thoroughly and evenly, crotons will appreciate an even moisture level. A sign of underwatering is wilting young leaves, make sure to water more if you are noticing this.
Temperature: 60 to 80F is their ideal temperature range. We do not recommend temperatures below 60F. Make sure to winter indoors and try to keep your plant away from drafty windows and doors. Leaf droppage may occur if temperatures are too chilly.
Humidity: Crotons are tropicals, so of course they love humidity. 40 to 80% humidity is recommended. Make sure to provide and/or boost humidity by misting, a pebble tray, or humidifier.
Feeding: For the best results, fertilize your magnificent three times per year. Once in early spring, at the early summer, and early fall. Fertilizer is not necessary during fall and winter.
Bonus
If you notice your croton magnificent dropping a few leaves upon arrival, no need to worry! This is normal as they adjust to their new location, any droppage after a week is abnormal. They do not like to move around a lot, so try to prepare a spot with the right conditions for them ahead of time.
