Cape Honeysuckle Plant Care

Tecoma capensis

Cape honeysuckle, a tropical plant, flourishes in both full sun and partial shade. In its native habitat, it often thrives in dappled light within the forest understory. In extremely hot climates, partial shade locations might be preferable, although denser shade can impact the intensity of blooming.

For optimal care, water your Cape Honeysuckle weekly with approximately one inch of water if grown in full sun. If the plant is cultivated in shade, watering frequency can be reduced to once or twice a month. After a year of regular watering, the roots should establish enough to provide drought tolerance.

The cape honeysuckle bush is rated for Zones 9 to 11. Find your zone here
