Blue Butterfly Bush Care Guide
Known as the blue butterfly bush for the shape and colors of it’s flowers, with our care guide soon you will have lots of ‘butterflies’!
Why People Love This Plant
These flowering beauties sport two toned light blue and violet colored blue flowers that take the shape of butterflies! The flowers are about 1.5″ long, they are on the smaller side! When this bush is in full bloom, covered in flowers, let me tell you it is quite a beauty! This butterfly bush is scientifically known as clerodendrum ugandense, not to be confused with the buddleia butterfly bush.
Your Guide to Care
Care: Lower maintenance, high reward.
Light: Full sun to partial shade. Full sun conditions will lead to fuller growth and more flowers. This bush should grow well with partial sun as well though. If grown indoors, south, east, or west facing windows are ideal. For the best results, make sure to take your plant outside during warmer months.
Water: Water twice a week thoroughly. During warm months make sure to keep the soil evenly moist, while during colder months, it’s better to let your plant dry out a little bit in an effort to avoid root rot.
Temperature: The blue butterfly bush is not a fan of cold temperatures so make sure to winter your plant indoors and keep it away from freezing temperatures.
Humidity: While this tropical plant prefers high humidity, it will tolerate lower. A pebble tray or humidifier would definitely be appreciated by this plant!
Feeding: Fertilize twice a month during growing season. It is a moderately hungry plant.
Bonus
Make sure to prune your plant to avoid it getting too leggy!
